Small kitchen design

When you pick up a small house to live on it, most of the rooms will require reorganization from you, it means that only important and indispensable things should be kept in order to save space, but defining what will be really required on each habitation sometimes is not as easy as it seems.

Here you will find some simple tips that will aid you to define what is really important on a small kitchen and how to optimize space utilization with practical solutions that you can create by yourself.

Among the most practical ideas are the collapsible furniture elements, a collapsible table can be easily transformed into a wood board to cut vegetables, there are also ledges which can be used as skirting-boards in order to increase available space.

Sometimes between kitchen furniture and walls there can be found small spaces, which are usually considered as ineffective, nevertheless there can be found ledges with dimensions adaptable to that space and which would be useful to store for instance a roll of aluminum paper, freezing bags or cooking books.

A practical ledge can be built with a plank of agglomerate of 8 millimeters of thickness for the lateral wall and to which can be attached many small planks of 16 millimeters of thickness, the structure then is fixed on a wall with the help of screws that are introduced trough the main plank.

For cookware is very useful to have a convenient hanger, so you can have them within reach each time you find yourself cooking a delicious meal. You can build one easily; all that will be required is a wood spoon of 30 centimeters of length, some polish and a few nails, in general at least 6 nails are required in order to have enough hangers for the most important utensils. Proceed to place the nails in the handle of the spoon with the same distance between each couple of nails in order to distribute them equally along the handle, then fold 90 degrees each nail so that they get to be hook-shaped, finally in the back of the handle add a yarn to append it on the wall.

You can also get to have a ledge over the socket outlets; this is an idea that solves two needs at the same time on small houses: it increases the number of outlets available and provides you with an extra space to store whatever you need.

The socket is made with two agglomerated strips with a straight angle, and they are enhanced by a support bar bolted to the wall. The couple of strips are joined with a mounting adhesive, leaving an additional margin of a centimeter on the horizontal strip, so we can use it as shelf where spices, salt and pepper boats can be placed. The vertical strip will be used to attach the outlets, after that pick a nice color of paint which is able to create a nice contrast with the color of your kitchen.
